Another HD-DVD Blow

ANOTHER HD DVD BLOW
Just a few hours ago, the Associated Press announced that there is a good possibility that Toshiba is about to throw in the towel on the HD DVD format.
Toshiba Corp. said today that no final decision had made but acknowledged it had started a review of its HD DVD strategy. The comments follow a weekend filled with Japanese media reports that the company was close to callling it quits on the format.
While this may be bad news for the 1 million people who own HD DVD format machines, it is good news for the industry as a whole. Shedding a format will make the HD market more appealing and less confusing for consumers.
Word of the possible HD DVD drop from Toshiba sent the companies stock rising 5.7 percent as analysts and investors viewed the likely decision as lessening the potential damage the format would have brought to the company.
