The End Of The HD DVD Story

BREAKING NEWS

It appears that the story below has come to pass a little faster than anyone expected. Today, Toshiba announced it would no longer develop, make or market the HD DVD format.

"We concluded that a swift decision would be best," Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told reporters at the company's Tokyo offices.

The company did say that they still believed in the format and that they would continue to provide product support for the 1 million people who bought their HD DVD machines.

Goodbye HD DVD. It's been fun.

I can't believe everything moved so fast after Warner and their pre-CES announcement.

Player prices are dropping very fast in the UK but alas media prices are not. We don't yet have a standalone 1.1 Blu-ray player over here and I'm actually a mouse click away from buying an EP35 as back up for my XE1 just to ensure the usefulness of my HD DVD movie collection:)
